Hearing Test

A hearing test
is performed to identify the type and severity of the hearing loss in each ear. It is performed using a machine called an audiometer which is designed to compare the hearing level of an individual test subject with average normal hearing.

An audiogram is the product of a hearing test. More precisely, it's a graphical representation on paper, showing the specific pitches (frequencies) and loudness (intensity) levels that a person can hear with each ear.

The audiogram provides vital information for use in the selection of the appropriate hearing aid system for the individual.

To the left is an audiogram plot ted as a result of such a test showing average normal hearing,

To the left is shown an audiogram for a high frequency hearing loss

The last audiogram is illustrative of everyday sounds and where they would appear on the audiogram.
